Grace M. Nelson was born September 3, 1932 in Rolling Forks Township to Mabel (Johnson) and George Jergenson.
She was baptized and confirmed at the Rolling Forks Church. Grace graduated from rural school in June, 1946 and attended Glenwood High School graduating May 30, 1950. She attended Teachers Training in Glenwood graduating in 1951 and taught rural school at District 14, Swift County.
Grace and Howard were married July 25, 1953 at Rolling Forks Church by Rev. Magnus Rohne. They were blessed with three children, Randy, Terri, and Larry Dean. Grace served as Township Clerk of Rolling Forks 17 years and was employed at Fingerhut and Future Products in Benson. She helped with the farm work and liked to cook and bake, especially donuts and pies. After Grace and Howard moved to Alexandria in December, 1990, she loved company and doing daycare in their home for 23 years and cared for 143 children, enjoying babies and older. She retired in September, 2012 due to liver cancer.
She was a charter member of Scandia Lutheran and was active in the church activities. She loved the Lord, her husband, and family.
Grace died on Friday, January 23, 2015 at Bethany Home in Alexandria at the age of 82. She is survived by her children, Randy, Terri (John) Hoff, Larry (Margie), four grandchildren, Nathan (Amber) Hoff, Nicolle (Paul) Schlosser, Ben (Tara) Nelson, Molly Nelson and friend, Eric Sanford, three great grandchildren, Lilli and Dylan Hoff and Payton Rae Schlosser. Sisters, Doris Lagred, Esther Tharaldson, Ione (Leo) Schwendemann,; sister-in-law Hazel Jergenson; Brother Glen Jergenson; and nieces and nephews. Grace was preceded in death by her husband, of 60 years, March 29, 2014, her parents, three brothers, Elmer (Rosella), Francis, and Lloyd (Jeanne) and an infant sister, Florence.
A funeral service will be 10:30 AM on Saturday, January 31, 2015 at Scandia Lutheran Church in rural Glenwood. Visitation will be held from 5-7 PM on Friday, January 30, 2015 at Anderson Funeral Home and for one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Interment will be in the church cemetery.
