They drove their motor home south for two winters and spent time seeing the south and western United States. Following Bob?s death in 2001 Gwen moved to Alexandria to be closer to her daughter. Gwen?s family was very important to her. She was very proud of her children. She was always ready to offer her care and company whenever her children or grandchildren were in need. She enjoyed going to see her grandchildren participate in school and church programs and also watching them play at sports. Gwen enjoyed sewing and quilting; she made quilts for each of her children and grandchildren. Gwen also enjoyed doing beadwork and making jewelry.
