HAROLD HANSEN Harold Hansen was born November 6, 1921 at Nashua, MN, the son of Fred and Rose (Gerber) Hansen. He attended school in Tintah, MN and later at Moorhead State College. Harold entered the US Army in 1941. He was selected for the Ordinance Technical School in Aberdeen, MD. Harold was chosen as a member for a military mission in March 1942 and was sent to Iran. Harold completed his overseas duty in India and Burma. In 1945 he returned to the United States and was honorably discharged as a warrant officer. In 1947 Harold was united in marriage to Lucille Mittag in Fergus Falls, MN where he was in business and worked as a manager for a loan company. Later, Harold and his family moved to Austin, MN and then to Alexandria, MN. Harold bought Traveler?s Inn and remodeled it. After a few years Harold sold the restaurant. While living in Alexandria Harold also owned eating establishments in Brainerd, MN and St. Cloud, MN. For the last thirty years Harold has been a resident of Scottsdale, AZ. Harold was a Life Member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and a Life Member of the Elks Lodge. He enjoyed golf, hunting, traveling and was an avid fisherman. On Thursday, August 22, 2013 Harold died at the age of ninety-one years. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lucille Hansen in 1997; and one son, Steven Hansen in 2004. Harold is survived by two sons, Jeff Hansen and wife, Millicent, of Alexandria and Greg Hansen and wife, Jeanne, of St. Charles, IL; daughter-in-law Katie Hansen of Watertown, SD; nine grandchildren; and four great grandchildren. A graveside service will be held 11 AM Saturday, August 31, 2013 at the Kinkead Cemetery in Alexandria. Reverend Wayne Erickson will officiate. The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 936, American Legion Post 87, Viet Nam Veterans of America Chapter 235 and the Minnesota National Guard will accord military honors. A visitation will be held from 4 to 8 PM Friday at the Anderson Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 936 in Alexandria or the Granite Reef Senior Center in Scottsdale.
