Harold R. Lindstrom, 92, of Dubuque, IA, and formerly of Des Moines, IA, Rock Island, IL and Alexandria, MN, passed away Friday, June 26, 2015 at Luther Manor, Dubuque.
Friends may greet the family Sunday, July 5, from 12:30 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Fahlun Lutheran Church, Nelson, MN, where services will be at 1:00 p.m. Pastor Jeremy Pedersen will officiate. Burial will be in Kinkead Cemetery, Alexandria, MN, where military honors will be accorded. Anderson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Friends may greet the family from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Thursday, July 2, 2015 at Hoffmann Schneider & Kitchen Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 3860 Asbury Rd., where there will be a prayer service at 3:00 p.m. Chaplain Burton Everist will officiate. Friends may also greet the family Sunday, July 5, from 12:30 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Fahlun Lutheran Church, Nelson, MN, where services will be at 1:00 p.m. Pastor Jeremy Pedersen will officiate. Burial will be in Kinkead Cemetery, Alexandria, MN, where military honors will be accorded.

Harold was born August 19, 1922 in Alexandria, MN, the son of Richard and Eleanor (Hainzl) Lindstrom. While at the University of Minnesota, he met his wife, Charlotte Haller, and he graduated in June of 1949 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering. They were married on campus on July 19, 1949. She preceded him in death on November 5, 2013.
Harold served his country with the United State Army 75th Infantry Division, 289th Infantry Regiment Company F during World War II.
Harold and Charlotte were very involved in the Veterans of World War II 75th Infantry Division, of which Harold served as president. Harold also formed the Hawkeye Chapter of the Veterans of the Battle of the Bulge. He was devoted to his fellow veterans, and enjoyed revisiting the battlegrounds in later years.
Harold was employed as an engineer, first at Moline Spreaderworks in Illinois, and then transferred to John Deere in Ankeny in 1969, retiring in 1986 after 37 years. He was a member of the Urbandale Lions Club and St. John’s Lutheran Church in Des Moines.
Harold was a leader in his community, and was instrumental in the building of the City of Urbandale swimming pool and development of the competitive swimming program. He enjoyed fishing in Minnesota and traveling.
Those left to cherish his memory include his daughters, Barbara (Bill) Schaetzel of Lawrence, KS, Margaret Erwood of Atlanta, GA, Janet Warren of Dubuque, and Colleen (Dave) Meakins of Colorado Springs, CO; 16 grandchildren, Michael Schaetzel, Jenny (Brandon) Rose, and Katie Schaetzel, Matthew, Andy, Amalie, Adam, and Eric Erwood, Louise, Donny, Jack, Charlie, and Olivia Warren, and Bradley, Brian, and Jonathon Meakins; a sister, Viola Larson; a sister in law, Sylvia Lindstrom, both of Alexandria, MN; and many nieces and nephews.


In addition to his beloved wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; his son in law, Don Warren; his brother Fred Lindstrom; and his sister Gladys (Cliff) Hedeen.

The family would like to thank the staff at Luther Manor for their kindness, compassion, and care over the years; and to Dr. Wolbers.
