Harold Lavern Stork was born October 6, 1936 in Bertha, MN, the son of Oscar and Vera (Laust) Stork. He grew up near Bertha and was schooled in Eagle Bend, MN. Harold graduated from high school in 1954 and in 1955 he enlisted in the United States Army. Harold served his country for two years and was stationed in England. Following his military service Harold returned to Minnesota and worked for his uncle in the masonry business in the Twin Cities. On June 28, 1959 Harold was united in marriage to Sharon Olson. The couple made their home in the Twin Cities where Harold went to work for Durkee Atwood Company. The couple was blessed with two children, Jill and David. In 1963 Harold moved his family to Alexandria, MN. He began working for John Lenz & Sons in the farm implement business. At the beginning of 1967 Harold joined 3M where he spent the next thirty years of his career. Harold retired from 3M in 1997. For eleven years Harold and Sharon would travel to Florida for two months each winter. Harold also enjoyed attending gatherings of the 3M Retirees Club. Harold loved motorcycling. He and Sharon made many trips around the United States and Canada on his Honda Goldwing. He also loved spending time motorcycling with his son Dave. Doing anything outdoors was just fine with Harold. He enjoyed summer and winter fishing. Harold also spent many years hunting deer and pheasant with Dave. Harold was a man of strong faith. He served his church as a trustee and was an active participant in AWANA. In his retirement he kept busy at church lending his hand towards whatever was needed. He helped with many repair and maintenance projects at Alexandria Covenant Church. He was active on the church prayer team and men?s group. On Sunday, August 5, 2012 Harold died at his home in Carlos at the age of seventy-five years. His parents and one brother, Lyle Stork, preceded him in death. Harold is survived by his loving wife of fifty-three years, Sharon Stork of Carlos; son Dave Stork and wife, Kim, of Hutchinson, MN; daughter, Jill Stork of Sauk Centre, MN; grandchildren, Ashley, Brittany and Emily Stork; brother Ronald Stork and wife, Carol, of Grand Raids, MN; and three sisters, Eleanor Engst and husband, Ronald, of Park Rapids, MN, Donna Ward and husband, Glen, of Clarissa, MN and Karol Tomford and husband, Roland, of Wadena, MN. A funeral service was held Wednesday, August 8, 2012 at the Alexandria Covenant Church. Reverend John LeVahn was the officiant. Linda Griepp and Carmen Silbernick provided music. Interment followed in the Peace Evangelical Cemetery at Bertha. Casket bearers included Meryl Wegner, Bob Erickson, Bonn Vander Tuin, Ed Smith, Tom Toenjes and Dave Pederson. The American Legion Post 87, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 936 and the Minnesota National Guard accorded military honors. Arrangements were with the Anderson Funeral Home. www.andersonfuneral.net
