Harold Suckow

December 19, 1929 — April 20, 2008

Harold was born on December 19, 1929, in Holloway, MN the son of August & Helen (Erdman) Suckow. He grew up on a farm in South Central Minnesota. Harold served his country during the Korean War. He was enlisted on April 13, 1951 and was a Sergeant in the Tank Corp. in the Army. He was Honorably Discharged on March 29, 1953. After he was Honorably Discharged Harold returned to Minnesota and moved to Starbuck where he met Joan Hagestuen. They were married on June 25, 1954. After they were married the couple moved to Alexandria. Harold?s lifetime career was construction. In 1967, he and Norman Sukke started S & S Construction and in 1968, they added Roy Medenwaldt and renamed the business S S & M Construction. For two years he was employed at Knute Nelson and later returned to S S & M until his retirement. In 1971, Harold built the home on Nelson (Mud) Lake where the family still resides. Harold died on Sunday, April 20, 2008. He is survived by his wife, Joan of Alexandria; six children & their families: Phyllis & Craig Christopherson of Parkers Prairie, MN, Lisa & Eldon Quam, Olivia, Ella, Logan of Stewartville, MN, Brad Christopherson of Minneapolis, Linda & Jim Hidding Matt, Kristen, Rachel of Carmel, IN, Nicole & Denny De Bryun, Isaac & Leah of Burnsville, MN, Derek Hickman of Largo, FL, Brian & Shelly Suckow, Lydia, Claire of Fargo, ND, Josh Suckow of Bemidji, Ali Suckow of Fargo, ND, Gary Suckow & Shelley Plessner, Gabby of Brandon, MN, Dan Suckow & Marcie Fouts, Michal, Jamie of Alpharetta, GA, Sherri Suckow & Jonathan Olofson of Fargo, ND; two sisters: Doris & Arnie Gorder of Starbuck, MN, Vernie & Richard Hagestuen of Mandan, ND several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents: Helen & August Suckow; step-father, Norvel Lesterberg; three sisters: Mildred Suckow, Florence Sylte, Doreen Stolt. Funeral service was held on Thursday, April 24, 2008, 11:00 a.m. at First Lutheran Church in Alexandria, MN with Rev. Greg Billberg officiating. Pallbearers were his grandchildren: Brad Christopherson, Josh Suckow, Derek Hickman, Lydia Suckow, Ali Suckow, Michal Suckow, Matt Hidding, Jamie Suckow. Military honors were by American Legion Post #87. Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery in Alexandria. Arrangements are with the Anderson Funeral Home.
