Harriet A Homey was born November 4, 1911 in Barsness Township, MN, the daughter of Torger and Laura (Christenson) Homey. She was raised on the family farm and attended school at District 88 in Barsness Township. On April 30, 1929 Harriet was united in marriage to Clarence Benson at Glenwood, MN. The couple made their home on several different farms in the Glenwood, Starbuck and Lowry area. They were blessed with four children, Delroy, Gladys, Doris and David. In addition to raising her children and running the household Harriet helped Clarence with farm work and milking the cows. In 1967 Harriet and Clarence retired from farming and moved to Alexandria, MN. Harriet enjoyed sewing, baking and cooking. She also did a lot of canning. Her canned meats were a favorite of family and neighbors. She also loved flower gardening. Very important in Harriet?s life were her grandchildren; she loved spending time with them. On April 14, 1962 Harriet was baptized as one of Jehovah?s Witness?. She loved visiting with people throughout her ministry. Harriet was a kind woman who endeared herself to others through her gentle soul. On Tuesday, September 2, 2008 Harriet died at the age of ninety-six years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Benson; her sister, Blanche Moen; and her brother, Abner Homey. Harriet is survived by her to sons, Delroy Benson and wife, Donna, of Alexandria, David Benson and wife, Vicki, of Alexandria; her two daughters, Gladys Feigum of Nelson, MN and Doris Symanietz and husband, Ernie, of Alexandria; thirteen grandchildren; twenty-one great grandchildren; five great step-grandchildren; one great, great grandson; and many nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held Saturday, September 13, 2008 at 1 PM at the Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria. Kelly Lewis will officiate. Interment will be private. There will be visitation at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. Arrangements are with the Anderson Funeral Home.
