Harriette Kaiser

Harriette (Ochs) Kaiser Harriette (Ochs) Kaiser passed away at Knute Nelson on December 19, 2008. Harriette was born on June 7, 1928 to Harry R. and Ella M. (Parent) Ochs, in LeSeuer, Minnesota. At the age of two years the family moved to Mankato, where they resided until Harriette was twelve years old. Her primary education was at St. Peter and Paul's School in Mankato. Harriette attended one year of high school at Loyola High School in Mankato. At age fourteen the Ochs family moved to St. Paul, where Harriette continued her education at St. Joseph's Academy. After graduating from St. Joseph's Academy, Harriette attended and graduated from St. Catherine's College, in the registered nursing program. In 1950 she married Curtis Lawrence Kaiser of Madison, South Dakota. Following two years of making their home in Madison, they moved to Marshall, Minnesota, where they lived and raised their family of five children. Harriette's later years were spent at her homes on Lake Carlos and Fort Myers Beach. Harriette dedicated her married life to her husband, Curt, and five children, Larry, Sandra, Susan, Janet and Ellen. Yet she found the energy, passion, time and commitment to give of herself, volunteering as the school nurse at Holy Redeemer Grade School and Central High School, serving on the Marshall Park Board and at Weiner Memorial Hospital Auxiliary events, and at American Legion Auxiliary and V.F.W. functions. Harriette's greatest concern was the well being of young women. Her leadership with the Weiner Memorial hospital student service program, MCCL projects and Red Cross nursing program impacted many young women. Harriette is best known for organizing the Young American baton twirling drill team, which performed locally and throughout the state at parades all seasons of the year. Her commitment to young women continues in the Kaiser Female Athlete award given at Marshall High School in Marshall, Minnesota. Harriette loved life to the fullest and all those with whom she came in contact. Her spirit and generosity live on in those whose lives Harriette touched. Her husband, Curtis, preceded Harriette in death in 2005. She is survived by her son, Larry (Patt) Kaiser of Mora, daughter, Sandra Kapoor of Pasadena, California, daughter, Susan (Stuart) Nordquist of International Falls, daughter, Janet Kaiser of Minnetonka and daughter, Ellen (Fred) Furuya of Williston Park, New York. There are seven grandchildren: Greg Kaiser, Andy (Jenny) Kaiser, John Kaiser, Elizabeth Furuya, Rachel Furuya, Allison Furuya and Tomi Kapoor. Harriette is survived by one brother, Robert (Barb) Ochs of Fort Myers, Florida and many other relatives and friends. Her family wishes to thank Rita Barrows, the staff at the Knute Nelson, Douglas County Hospice and other caretakers for the kind and loving care Harriette received. A celebration of life will be conducted at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Alexandria on December 27; at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Casket bearers include all of Harriette?s grandchildren. Visitation will be at the Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria on December 26, from 6:30-8:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 6:30 p.m. Memorials would be welcome to Douglas County Hospice.
