Harvey Allen Froland was born on November 25, 1945 at St. Mary’s Hospital the son of Olaf and Gladys (Iverson) Froland. Harvey’s younger years were spent in Clarkfield, MN and in 1951 they moved to Granite Falls. In 1957, the family moved to a farm in Starbuck and Harvey attended Starbuck High School.
After graduation he enlisted in the United States Army and went to basic training in Fort Knox, Kentucky. He was then transferred to Fort McClellan in Alabama for chemical staff training and then to Fort Lewis in Washington where he was a part of the 4th Infantry. Harvey fought in Vietnam from 1966-1967. He was honorably discharged in August of 1967.
Upon returning from the war Harvey attended Alexandria Technical College from 1969-1970. After college he worked for Hubbard Milling and drove truck for Alex Boat Works.
In January of 1970, he met Patricia Chamberlain and the couple were married on July 31, 1971 at St. Francis Catholic Church in Benson. To this union two children were born, Karla and Brett. In 1974, he started farming the family farm in Starbuck where they raised their family. During this time he also drove school bus for Minnewaska school district for twenty six years.
Harvey enjoyed hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, sports, watching western movies, camping and spending time with his family. The couple enjoyed spending winters in Donna, Texas. On July 31, 2021 Harvey and Pat celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.
Harvey was a lifetime member of the Starbuck VFW, member of the Lowry Legion and was on the honor guard and firing squad.
Harvey died on Sunday, December 11, 2022. He is survived by his wife, Patricia; daughter, Karla (Bob) Gleason; son, Brett Froland; grandchildren: Ryan, Katelyn, Andrew, Alexa Gleason; sisters: Gloria Hamann, Jan (Lee) Hanson. He is preceded in death by his parents: Olaf & Gladys; step-mother, Pauline.
