Harvey A. Hemquist Harvey August Hemquist of rural Parkers Prairie, Minnesota, died on Sunday, January 2, 2011, at the Douglas County Hospital in Alexandria, Minnesota. Harvery was born on May 19, 1934, to August and Inez (Lukken) Hemquist in Parkers Prairie, Minnesota. He was baptized in Parkers Prairie and on April 18, 1948, he was confirmed at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Parkers Prairie. He attended rural School District 236 for four years and then graduated from the Parkers Prairie School District in 1952. After graduating he took over the family farm. On February 16, 1957, he married Lillian Briese. Together they continued to farm while raising two children. He was also employed with the Postal Service for 32 years, serving in Alexandria, Sebeka, and Parkers Prairie, retiring in 1999. He loved his family and enjoyed his dogs along with fishing, hunting, and traveling to the mountains. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. He is survived by his wife of 53 years Lillian, son Brian (Ronda) Hemquist of Parkers Prairie, daughter Debra (James) Thorstensen of Hermantown, MN, six grandchildren Sandra (Michael) Helgeson, Patricia (Jason) Gill, Bonnie (Brandon) Purdeu, Daniel, Karen, and Andrea Thorstensen, and sister, LouAnn Anderson. He was preceded in death by his parents, August and Inez Hemquist and sister, Ardis Erickson. Memorial services will be held on Thursday, January 6, 2011, at 11:00 am at the First Evangelical Church in Parkers Prairie. Honorary Pallbearers will be his grandchildren. Visitation will be from 6-8 pm on Wednesday evening at the church. Arrangements are with the Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria. www.andersonfuneral.net
