Hazel Bernice was born on May 15, 1926, in Kensett, Iowa the daughter of George and Wannie Dokken.
Hazel was united in marriage to Roland Erickson in January of 1961. To this union two daughters were born: Joan & Jean. Great memories were made when Hazel would take the girls camping to Money Creek every weekend. She loved to travel and enjoyed her trips to Hawaii, Mexico, Guatemala, Alaska and Florida.
Hazel was the lefse maker for family gatherings and whenever you would go to her home she would offer you several glasses of juice. She enjoyed knitting, quilting, socializing and going to rummage sales. While living at Bethany she participated in balloon ball, bingo, sitting in the courtyard, going on any outing that was offered and bible study.
Hazel will be remembered as a very giving person who was always put others ahead of herself. She loved her grandchildren and had a very strong faith and opinions and wasn’t afraid to share it.
Hazel died on Tuesday, April 26, 2016. She is survived by her two daughters: Joan (Timothy) Marsolek of Alexandria, Jean (Bryan) Lorenson of Anchorage, Alaska; five grandchildren: Nathan (Sarah) of Clive, IA, Taylor (Felix) of Anchorage, AK, Cannin of Austin, MN, Hailey of Anchorage, AK, Tanner of Alexandria; five brothers: Donald, Truman, Wilfred, Melvin, Reuben Dokken; sister, Juanita Bolinger.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Roland; parents, brothers: James & Leslie; sister, Mary.
Memorial service will be held on Tuesday, May 3, 2016, 2:00 PM at the Bethany Home Chapel. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at Bethany Home Chapel.
