HAZEL L. HERMANSON Hazel Hermanson 86 of Brandon, died March 12, 2010 at Knute Nelson Memorial Home in Alexandria. She was surrounded by her family. Hazel was born on August 8, 1923 in Brandon to George and Jenny (Belgard) Thompson. She attended school in Brandon and graduated from Alexandria High School. On August 17, 1941 Hazel was united in marriage to Les Hermanson at St Petri Lutheran Church in rural Brandon. They shared 67 years of marriage before Les died in December 2008. Hazel was employed at Richard Dahl?s grocery store in Brandon and later at Ostlund?s Hardware Store and Brandon Communications, as administrative and secretarial assistant. After retirement, she enjoyed volunteering at the Douglas County Hospital. She was active in her community and was instrumental in starting the Brandon Garden Club. She enjoyed beautifying the streets in Brandon with her pots of flowers. She had a gift of growing flowers, especially roses and sharing her creative arrangements with friends, family and her church. It would ?make her day? to have someone stop by and have a fresh cup of coffee and home made cookies. Most important to Hazel was time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also had a special friend, her dog, ?Benji Boy.? Hazel and Les traveled throughout the US with close friends, and in1998 she realized her dream trip with Les to Hawaii. Hazel was a life long member of St Petri Lutheran Church where she was baptized, confirmed, married and will be buried on March 18, 2010. She was active, serving the Lord, as church historian, counsel member, keeping cemetery records, member of St Petri Women of Word, Via de Christo, and helping plan church events. Hazel is survived by her son Doug Hermanson and wife, Yvonne, of Alexandria; grandchildren Randy (Janice) Hermanson, Reed Hermanson, Michael (Sara) Hermanson and Karri Hermanson; great-grandchildren, Jerid, Caitlin, Miah, William and Nathan Hermanson. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, son Roger Hermanson, brothers Wilton, Orean, and Floyd Thompson, sisters Glefern Holverson, Berdell Ellingson, & Eloise Anderson. A funeral service was held on Thursday, March 18, 2010 at St. Petri Lutheran Church in Urness Township, MN with the Reverend David Gran officiating. Audrey Aga played the organ and Dennis Thompson was the soloist. Interment was in the church cemetery. Casket Bearers were Michael Hermanson, Reed Hermanson, Gary Anderson, Dale Anderson, Darrell Hermanson, and Larry Hermanson. Honorary Casket Bearers were Randy R. Hermanson, and David Thompson.
