Hazel Kleven

Hazel Irene (Larson) Kleven was born on February 14, 1926, the second of ten children of Ingval and Alma (Hanson) in Starbuck, MN. She was baptized April 6, 1926, by Rev. M. Casper Johnshoy and confirmed March 17, 1940, by Rev. Johnson at Fron Lutheran Church in Starbuck, MN. Hazel attended Starbuck High School.

Hazel was united in marriage to Ernie Kleven on October 5, 1943 at Calvary Lutheran Church in Alexandria by Oscar Gustafson. To this union the couple was blessed with two daughters, Judy and Jacki. The family lived in Alexandria throughout their life, and Hazel worked as a homemaker. After the death of her husband, Ernie on February 3, 1997, and her daughters, Jacki on March 2, 1995 and Judy on May 18, 2011, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren became her life. She considered her great-grandchildren her biggest treasure.

Hazel and Ernie enjoyed going to garage sales and flee markets looking for the next antique to collect. They had collected so much they had a two day auction in 1997 at the Runestone Community Center. Hazel also enjoyed the casino trips that she took with her daughter, Judy.

Hazel died on Thursday, January 19, 2017 at Knute Nelson in Alexandria at the age of 90. She is survived by her grandchildren, Michelle (Byron) Driemeyer, and Ernie (Melinda) Kolle, Christi Cooley-Pauluk, Matthew (Sherice) Cooley, Marshal (Sarah) Cooley; great-grandchildren, Julia Pauluk, Eva and Elsa Cooley, Miles and Seth Cooley, Emalee and Abby Driemeyer, Ashley Kolle, and Rachel (Jeffrey) Pappenfus; great-great-grandson, Royce Pauluk; sister, Lillian (Myron) Foslien; and brothers, Arvid (Sandy) Larson and LeRoy Larson; son-in-law, David Cooley; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Hazel is preceded in death by her husband, Ernie; daughters, Jacki and Judy; parents, Ingval and Alma; sisters, Delores, Lois, and Ruby; brothers, Louis (Jr), Daryle, and Harris.

A funeral service will be held 11:00 AM on Wednesday, January 25, 2017 at Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria with Reverend Wayne Erickson officiating. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at Fron Cemetery in Starbuck, MN.
