Hazel Whiting

Hazel Whiting, age 99, of Brandon, MN, died Thursday, July 31, at Knute Nelson Memorial Home in Alexandria, where she had lived for the past six years. Hazel was born on December 7, 1908, and was raised mainly in Montevideo, MN, but also spent several years in Minneapolis. Hazel married Alan Whiting in Spooner, WI, on November 23, 1928, and they made a home in Clitherall. She and Alan farmed most of their lives, moving to Brandon in 1954. She moved to Alexandria in 1997, and eventually to Knute Nelson in 2002. She was preceded in death by her husband, Alan; grandson, Billy Garvin; four brothers and one sister. Survivors include her five children: Mae (Alfred) Garvin, Hope (Roy) Helms, Glenn (Helen) Whiting, Pat (Gerald) Fearing, and Sharon Whiting (John Sullivan). She is also survived by 16 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, and 9 great-great grandchildren. She was a lovely, gentle person with the patience to assemble even the most intricate of jigsaw puzzles. She will be missed greatly by many people. Funeral services were held on Monday, August 4, 2008, 11:00 a.m. at Grace Lutheran Church in Brandon with Rev. Dennis Preston officiating. Pallbearers were Bruce Garvin, Ricky Garvin, Rodney Garvin, Tim Fearing, Scott Fearing, Ron Rubink. Burial was at Brandon Cemetery in Brandon, MN.
