Helen Fredericks

July 7, 1926 — June 26, 1948

Helen Arminda Jacobson was born July 7, 1926 in Britt, IA to Clarence and Cleo (Swaney) Jacobson. She moved with her family to the Villard, MN area where she met her husband, Duane Frederick. They were married on June 26, 1948. Helen attended the nursing program through Swedish Hospital and Hamline University. Following the birth of her three children Helen resumed her career as an RN at Douglas County Hospital in the Coronary Care Unit. Helen was an amazing gardener, a skilled seamstress and an avid collector of antiques. She had a flair for making her house a home and was a dedicated mother, wife and grandmother. Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Duane; her oldest brother, Clarence Jacobson; her nephew, Karl; and a brother-in-law, Marc Rosenthal. Helen is survived by her children, Julie (Jim) Angermeyr, Jan (Keith) Howard and Greg (Suzie) Frederick; grandchildren, Molly (Nick) Thorson, Megan (Nate) Schleuter, Ashley Howard, Tyler Frederick and Jazmin Frederick; great granddaughter, Kendall Thorson; brothers, Wayne, Virgil and Jerry Jacobson; and a sister, Janet Rosenthal. A funeral service was held Sunday, October 24, 2010 at the Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria. Reverend Peter Reishus officiated. Mertice Brueske and Dan Olson provided music. Interment followed in the Evergreen Cemetery in Alexandria. Honorary pallbearers included all of Helen?s grandchildren. While her disease relentlessly stole her away from us, piece by piece, her gentle spirit continued to shine through. Helen?s family would like to thank the entire staff at Prairie Senior Cottages in Alexandria for their extraordinary care given over the past two years. Arrangements were with the Anderson Funeral Home.
