Helen Delores Glade

Helen Magnuson Glade was born on June 4, 1930 the daughter of Carl and Hulda (Johnson) Magnuson. She was born at home in LaGrande Township with a neighbor lady acting as midwife. Helen attended District 88 a one room country school through the 8th grade and then graduated from Alexandria High School.

Helen was united in marriage to Karl Glade Jr. in December of 1948. To this union three children were born, Billie, Rick and Holly. She worked for the Garden Center as their bookkeeper for 44 years as well as being a lifetime bowler. After retirement she served on the Board of Directors of the Alexandria Senior Center.

From childhood on Helen had a love of horses. She belonged to Lake Region Saddle Club, worked on Horseman’s Holiday for several years. Helen also enjoyed having cats and had one most of her life. She was an outdoor person who enjoyed family fishing trips, gardening and working on her ranch. She was proud of her Scandinavian heritage and researched it in later years.

Helen was a longtime member of the Alexandria United Methodist Church where she served on several committees and sang in the church choir for over 50 years.

Helen died on Saturday, January 4, 2025. She is survived by her three children: Billie (Paula), Rick (Mary), Holly Glade; grandchildren: Lisa (Tim) Bicha, Julie (Chad) Olberding, Jim (Amy) Glade, Erin (Mike) Chjurchwell; great grandchildren: Kenzie, Mikki, Matthew, Markos Bicha, Leah & Blake Olberding, Monroe & Sully Glade; several nieces and nephews; special niece Shirley Boysen.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, sisters: Edith (Willis) Bartholomew, Mildred (Vernon) Peterson; several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held on Monday, January 20, 2025, 10:00 - 11:00 AM at the United Methodist Church with a Memorial Service at 11:00 AM.  Burial will be at Kinkead Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to a local charity in Helen's name.
