Helen Ann Paulson, daughter of Arthur and Dora L (Johnson) Paulson, was born on May 7, 1925 in Staples, MN. She graduated from Staples High School in 1943 then entered into nurses training at Illinois Masonic Hospital School of Nursing and graduated on March 3, 1945. She began her nursing career with Dr. D.K. Bacon in St. Paul for eight years. In 1955, Helen began working at Douglas County Hospital in Alexandria, MN. She retired from nursing and working at the hospital after 39 years.
Helen loved animals and watching birds out her window. She helped relocate many pets with loving families over the years. She liked to entertain with her friends and travel around the country. She also liked watching the Minnesota Twins. She even had a “Homer Hanky” signed by Kirby Puckett!
Helen was a wonderful woman, who enjoyed people and was always interested in their stories and life. She especially loved her family and cherished every gift, letter, or note that was given to her. She will be dearly missed by all those who knew and loved her.
Helen Ann Paulson died on Thursday, January 4, 2018 at Knute Nelson at the age of 92 years old. She is survived by her nephew, Arthur (Coreen) Salberg of Orville, CA; Longtime friend, Rhonda Boesen of Alexandria; cousins, Mary Jane Paulston of Ames, IA, Shirley (Mike) Cronin of Minnetonka, Marlin Paulston Jr. of Menahga, and Mary (Dana) Zimmerman of Ames, IA; Life-long friend, Elaine (Skoglund) Bower of Kinross, IA; many many dear friends. She was preceded in death by her parents Arthur and Dora Paulson; brother, Herbert Salberg Sr.; nephew, Herbert Salberg Jr., and cousins Marlin Paulston Sr., and Kathleen Lillehei.
A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, January 9, 2018 at 11:00 AM at Knute Nelson Chapel in Alexandria with the Reverend Linnae Grabner-Hegg officiating. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral at the chapel on Tuesday. Interment will be in the Evergreen Hill Cemetery in Staples, MN.
