Herbert Schultz

Herbert A. Schultz Herbert Alvin Schultz was born on January 28, 1923, in Antrim Township, near Truman, Minnesota, the son of Emil and Marie (Otto) Schultz. He was one of 12 children born to this union. He attended St. Paul Lutheran School in Truman and graduated from Dr. Martin Luther Academy in New Ulm. Following high school he worked on the family farm and did carpentry work with his brother, Lawrence. Their carpentry work included going to Texas in the winter building homes on the Texas coast. In 1948 Herbert served stateside in the United States Army. He was Honorably Discharged in 1949. On February 26, 1950, Herbert was united in marriage to Isabelle Kuefner in Truman, Minnesota. The couple lived in Austin, Minnesota, where Herbert sold Watkins products in the area. In 1960 they moved to Redwood Falls and in 1969 to Alexandria. During his time in Alexandria, Herbert worked for the Bellanca Aircraft Company and Alexandria Extrusion. He retired in 1986. Herbert and Isabelle were founding members of the St. Paul?s Lutheran Church in Alexandria and were very active there. They are responsible for much of the landscaping and planting around the church property. In his spare time, Herbert loved woodworking, fishing, camping, and was a master gardener. He will be remembered as a gentle soul who was happiest doing the Lord?s work. Herbert slipped quietly into his Lord?s arms on January 28, 2011, on his birthday at the age of 88 years. He is survived by his wife Isabelle Schultz of Alexandria, children Ione (Ron) Nerby of Fargo, Brian (Gwen) Schultz of Plymouth, Barry (Sandy) Schultz of Harrisburg, PA, Irma Jean (John) Campbell of Tempe, AZ, and Irene (Mike) Albert of Inver Grove Heights. Also surviving are nine grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, brothers Raymond, Lawrence, and Emil, and sisters Trudy, Luella, and Glenda. Herbert was preceded in death by his parents, and five brothers and sisters. Funeral Services were held on Tuesday, February 1, 2011, from the St. Paul?s Lutheran Church in Alexandria, Minnesota with Rev. Michael Neumann officiating. Music was provided by Jolene Sabrowsky, Connie Wales, and Greg Wales. Interment was in the Lake Ida Cemetery of rural Alexandria with George Nerby, John Schultz, Barry Schultz, Andrew Nerby, Brian Schultz and Michelle Schultz serving as pallbearers.
