Hildur Eleanor (Stomberg) Dyer was born June 16, 1925 at home in rural Graceville, MN, to Alvin and Ada (Brahee) Stomberg. As a child she attended District 4 country school. Hildur graduated high school from West Central School of Agriculture at Morris, MN. On May 11, 1947 Hildur was united in marriage to Cleo Dyer in Siloah Lutheran Church at rural Graceville. The couple lived near Morris for two years before moving to their farm in Arthur Township, Traverse County in March of 1949. They farmed there from 1947 to 1968. In 1966 Hildur and Cleo began operating an independent insurance agency with an office in Browns Valley, MN. They sold part of the business in 1994, but continued with life and health insurance until May of 2000. Hildur was baptized and confirmed at Siloah Lutheran Church where she remained as a lifelong member of the congregation. Throughout the years she was an active participant in various church activities, including the women?s circle and guilds, Sunday school and she served for many years as church organist. Hildur was a longtime member of the American Legion Auxiliary of Browns Valley and she was also an active 4-H leader of the Parnell 4-H Club. Hildur thoroughly enjoyed her interactions with family and friends. Her smile, wit and positive attitude endeared her to all. Some activities that Hildur enjoyed include basketball, Scrabble, puzzles, reading, knitting and sewing. Hildur was known for her delicious molasses cookies. On Tuesday, January 28, 2014 Hildur passed away at the age of eighty-eight years. Hildur is survived by her children, Douglas Dyer and wife, Carol, of Victoria, MN, Elaine Schach and husband, Tom, of Fair Play, MO, Maureen Ross and husband, Horace, of Mickleton, NJ and Nolan Dyer and wife, Sharon, of Independence, MO; four grandchildren, Allison Dyer of Plymouth, MN, Bethany Myhre and husband, Chris, and great granddaughter, Gabrielle, of Fargo, ND, Brian Schach of Fair Play, MO and Stuart Ross and wife, Darlene, of Redlands, CA; sisters-in-law, Carol Rupert of Beaverton, OR, Cleo Stomberg of St Croix Falls, WI and Phyllis Dyer of St. Cloud, MN; one brother-in-law, Hollis Dyer and wife, Leticia, of Murrieta, CA; and many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. Hildur was preceded in death by her husband, Cleo Dyer; two brothers, Eldor and Adolph Stomberg; and three sisters, Charlotte Wiese, Edith Lundborg and Mildred Toso. A funeral service was held Friday, January 31, 2014 at First Lutheran Church in Alexandria, MN. A second service was held Saturday, February 1, 2014 at Siloah Lutheran church at rural Graceville. Reverends John Ragan and Marilee Bergerson officiated. Interment followed in the Siloah Lutheran Church Cemetery. Memorials are preferred to the American Cancer Society. Arrangements are with the Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria.
