Illa Agnes Zinniel was born December 25, 1932 near Freeport, MN, the daughter of Ray and Anna (Van Heel) Zinniel. She was one of five siblings. Illa was baptized and confirmed at the Church of St. Francis at St. Francis, MN.
On May 31, 1952 Illa was united in marriage to Roger Swanson at the Church of St. John in Swanville, MN. In 1953 the couple was blessed with one daughter, Joyce. They moved to Freeport for four years before moving to Bloomington, MN. Following Roger's retirement, the couple moved to Alexandria, MN.
Illa loved her home and family. She loved gardening and growing flowers. Illa also did all sorts of crafts including crocheting, knitting and cross-stitch. One of Illa's favorite pastimes was collecting dolls; she bought dolls wherever she could. Many of the dolls needed repair or new clothing and she took joy in restoring them. Illa also enjoyed time spent in the outdoors camping with Roger and Joyce.
After Roger's death in 2011 Illa became a resident of Diamond Willow in Alexandria. On Sunday, November 27, 2016 Illa died at the age of eighty-three years. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Roger; her daughter, Joyce Nelsen; a brother, LaVerne Zinniel; two sisters, Beata Zinniel and Ida Click; and nephews, Dale Zinniel, Robert Click and Richard Click. Illa is survived by her brother, Elmer Zinniel and wife, Fern; sister, Virginia Johnson and husband, Merle; one granddaughter, Nicole Nelsen; one great granddaughter, Logan Marie; one son-in-law Terry Nelsen; and many nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held 2:30 PM Thursday, December 1, 2016 at the Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria. Entombment will follow St. Mary's Cemetery in Alexandria.
