Irene Bundy

Irene Rose Korkowski was born September 5, 1927 in Brandon, MN, the daughter of Frank and Mary (Freske) Korkowski. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Brandon. Irene attended school in Brandon where she graduated from high school.

Irene started working at Runestone Electric Association where she met Bill Bundy. On November 28, 1946 Bill and Irene were united in marriage at St. Ann’s. They were blessed with one daughter, Ann Marie. After several years with Runestone Electric, Irene began working for Douglas County as deputy registrar of deeds. In 1955 Irene was elected Douglas County Recorder and served as Recorder for thirty-two years. She retired in 1987.

Irene volunteered her time to her church and other community organizations. She was active an active member of St. Mary’s Church from 1946. She served as a member of the Christian Mothers and the Daughters of Isabella. Irene gave her time to the community by serving as a board member on several different boards.  She volunteered at Knute Nelson Home, the Alexandria Senior Center, the Elder Network, New Horizons and the Red Cross.

On Monday, December 4, 2017 Irene died at the age of ninety years. She was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-three years, Bill Bundy; her parents; sisters, Audrey and Dorothy Korkowski; brothers, Wilfred, Jerome (infant), Walter and Vincent Korkowski, and sisters-in-law, Elizabeth Korkowski (Wilfred), Eileen Korkowski (Vincent) and Shirley Korkowski (Leon). Irene is survived by her daughter, Ann Marie Smidt and husband, Jim, of Alexandria; granddaughter, Jill Nettestad and husband, Ole, of Clear Lake, MN; and three great grandchildren, Ella, Cole and Britta Nettestad, sister, Jean Clark and husband, Terry, of Murfreesboro, TN; brothers, Bernard Korkowski and wife, Diane, of Alexandria, Leon Korkowski of Annandale, MN, Robert Korkowski and wife, Phyllis, Minnetonka, MN and Kenneth Korkowski of St. Paul, MN; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 2 PM Friday, December 8, 2017 at the Church of St. Mary in Alexandria. Reverend Father Steve Binsfeld will be the celebrant.  Entombment will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at church.
