Irene Mae Johnson was born June 28, 1937 in Starbuck, MN, the daughter of Eddie and Edna (McClellan) Johnson. She was raised near Forada, MN and graduated from Central High School in Alexandria.
Irene began working for Yuetter’s Bakery. She was united in marriage to Donald Dummert and was blessed with two daughters. Irene worked as a bookkeeper for International Harvester, a farm equipment dealer, in Glenwood, and later as a bookkeeper for Juettner Motors and Cass-Clay Dairy in Alexandria. She completed her career as a bookkeeper at Steinbring’s in Glenwood, retiring in the late 1990’s.
Irene loved snowmobiling in the winter. She also kept a large vegetable garden and enjoyed cooking and baking. She loved photography and had a large collection of photographs and home movies of all of her family, friends and loved ones. Irene sewed and knitted. She also enjoyed doing ceramics and attending flea markets where she was able to sell ceramic products.
On Monday, December 30, 2019 Irene died at the age of eighty-two years. She was preceded in death by her infant daughter, Julie; parents, Eddie and Edna Johnson; brother, Donald C. Johnson; and husband, Donald Dummert. Irene is survived by her daughter, Judy Hammerschmidt and husband, Jim, of Mankato, MN.
A graveside service was held at the Kinkead Cemetery in Alexandria.
