Irene A. Hemker, born May 24th, 1928, in Olmsted County, MN and passed away September 13th, 2017. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Martin Hemker. She attended school in Forestville, Wykoff, and Mankato Cosmetology.
She worked in beauty salons in Spring Valley and St. Paul, she also worked at Torit Factory in St. Paul.
Irene married Harold Witte in 1946. To this union they were blessed with two children, David and Linda, four grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.
Later she married Donald Lambert and lived on a farm near Clinton, MN and became stepmother to nine children. They farmed for six years and then moved to Alexandria where they kept busy caretaking apartments and lawns, and owned and operated a Donut Concession.
Irene loved music, decorating, crocheting, fishing, seashell collecting, crafts, and cooking. She wrote two cookbooks that she shared with family and friends. They enjoyed camping with Viking Land campus. They wintered in Florida and did a lot of traveling.
They moved to Blackwell Lake where they had many family gatherings that were enjoyed by all.
They spent their last days at Windmill Ponds. Irene is preceded in death by her parents and three siblings, Emeline, Lillian, and Leonard, and two grandchildren, Trevor and Cassandra.
She is survived by her son, David and wife, Judy; daughter, Linda Scott and husband, Jerry; step-children, Gary Lambert and friend Norma, Greg and Carol Lambert, Gale and Pam Lambert, Brian and JoAnn Lambert, Randy and Jan Lambert, Lori Lambert, Jill Bullard, Judy and Don Ellingson, Jolene and Gene Herrmann; two nieces, Sandra Chapman and Donna Ritter; many grand and great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.
A funeral service will be held 1 PM on Tuesday, September 19, 2017, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alexandria officiated by Reverend Steve Binsfeld. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Entombment will be at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Alexandria.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Hospice of Douglas County or The Church of St. Mary.
Arrangements are with the Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria.
