Irene M. Nelson age 93 of Alexandria died on Monday, October 12, 2015 at Knute Nelson. A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, October 16, 2015 at 11AM at Calvary Lutheran Church in Alexandria. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 5-7 PM at the Anderson Funeral Home and also for one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday.
OBITUARY
Irene Marion Nelson was born January 19, 1922, daughter of Nels and Nettie Thorson in Moe Township, Douglas County Minnesota. She was baptized and confirmed at East Moe Lutheran Church, Moe Township. Irene attended country school in Moe Township and graduated from Central High School, Alexandria in 1940.
She was a resident of Nelson Gables and Knute Nelson and died on Monday, October 12, 2015 at Knute Nelson Home at the age of 93.
Irene married Robert E. Nelson on June 7, 1941. The couple farmed in La Grande Township until moving to West Brook Estates in Alexandria in 1998. She was a homemaker and known for her gift of preparing delicious food, especially pies. She always enjoyed family gatherings and family, grandchildren and great grandchildren were very important to her. She was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church, Alexandria where she was active in the Women’s Circle and helped prepare the Lenten Soup Luncheons for many years.
Irene was preceded in death by her husband, Robert E. Nelson, parents and siblings; Noyal (Myrtle) Thorson, Francis (Irma) Thorson, Emma (Andrew) Urness, Julia (Ivan) Kirk, Mildred (Marvin) Walstad, Ethel (Edward) Bergner. She is survived by a sister, Magel (Archie) Danielson.
She is survived by her four children; Robert (Liz) Nelson of New Prague, MN, Lynn (John) Blair of Glenwood, MN, Bradley (Shirley) Nelson of Alexandria, MN, Lori (Kurt) Persson of Avon MN; ten grandchildren; Sarah (Bob) Eppard, John Nelson, Jennie (Kel) LeCocq, Nikki (Mike) Martin, Stacie (Chad) Klose, Lisa (Andy) Talley, Kristi (Matt) Sands, Wade (Ashley, fiancANLGAC.) Persson, Brett Persson & Karli Persson; nine great grandchildren; Madeline Eppard, Colton Nelson, Atia, Daeja and Lucie LeCocq, Mikayla and Ryland Martin; Bailee and Hudson Kloss.
Her memory will always be cherished by her loving family.
A funeral service will be held 11:00 AM on Friday, October 16, 2015 at Calvary Lutheran Church in Alexandria with Reverend Marilee Bergerson officiating. Visitation will be held Thursday, October 15, 2015 from 5-7 PM at the Anderson Funeral Home, and one hour prior to the service at the church. Casket bearers were Irene’s grandchildren and honorary casket bearers were Irene’s great-grandchildren. Interment was at Evergreen Cemetery in Alexandria, MN
