Irene Olson

OBITUARY Irene Bernice Olson was born on March 1, 1927, in Minneapolis, MN the daughter of Ernest and Esther (Olson) Nelson. She was raised in Minneapolis until a teenager and then the family moved to a hobby farm near Evansville, MN. After she graduated from Evansville high school she worked at Yutters Bakery in Alexandria.. Irene married Ernest Olson on April 10, 1948 in Evansville, MN. Together they lived on Ernest?s family farm in Ida Township near Garfield, MN. Irene helped on the farm and raised her four children: Gary, Nancy, Bonnie, and Deborah. Irene and Ernest moved to Alexandria 1974. She then started working for the Douglas County Hospital in housekeeping for 18 years. After Irene retired she enjoyed her home they built in Alexandria and tending to her garden and flowers. She also enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren camping and fishing. She will be missed by those who knew and loved her. Irene B. Olson died on Tuesday, March 22, 2011 at the Hoffman Good Samaritan Center at the age of 84 years old. She is survived by her children Gary (Judi) Olson of Carlos, MN; Nancy (Edward) Becker of Kensington, MN; Bonnie (Michael) Eason of Zimmerman, MN; Deborah (Rodney) Affeldt of Browns Valley, MN; 13 grandchildren; 33 great grandchildren; sisters Barbara (Joseph) Welsh of Osakis, MN; and Judith (Dennis) Mack of Minneapolis, MN. She was preceded in death by her parents Ernie and Esther Nelson; husband Ernest Olson; one grandson; and one great grandson. A funeral service was held on Saturday, March 26, 2011 at St. Luke?s Lutheran Church in Garfield, MN with the Reverend David Gran officiating. Greg Kapphahn provided music for the funeral service. Interment was in the Kinkead Cemetery in Alexandria, MN. Casket Bearers were Jason Olson, Chad Olson, Richard Miller, Robert Miller, Allan Becker, Edward Becker, and Steven Eason.
