Irma Halstead

September 11, 1919 — October 8, 2014

Irma Genevieve (Haugen) Halstead was born September 11, 1919. She was one of eight children born to Olaf and Henrietta Haugen. She was baptized and confirmed at Mandt Lutheran Church in Minnesota. Irma went to country school and graduated from Milan High School, Minnesota in 1937. After graduation Irma moved to Alexandria, Minnesota to work for an aunt at the Alex Cafe and is where she met her husband William "Bill" Halstead. Bill and Irma were married September 20, 1942 at First Lutheran Church in Alexandria, Minnesota. Irma worked at the Agnes & Mildred Dress Shop for several years and later at the Alexandria Clinic.

Irma was an active member of First Lutheran Church in Alexandria serving on the alter guild, numerous circles, quilters, and Women of ELCA. Irma loved to read, do crossword puzzles, knit, play bridge, golf, garden (especially flowers), and travel. Her travels included all 50 U.S. states, Norway, and the Caribbean. Irma moved to Little Falls, MN in 2012 to be closer to her daughter Lynn.

She is survived by her daughter Lynn Halstead of Little Falls, MN; sister-in-laws Delores Haugen of Montevideo, MN, Rudella Haugen of Montevideo, MN, Lanelle Brackman of Irvine, CA, and Lucille Miller of Minneapolis, MN; and many loving nieces, nephews, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband William; her parents; sisters Evelyn Knoll, Rosalie Sorenson, Wanda Fostervold, Margaret Fiala, and Harriet Sexton; and brothers Orton Haugen and Donald Haugen.

A funeral service was held Monday October 13, 2014 at First Lutheran Church.in Alexandria. Rev. Marilee Bergerson was the officiant. Music was provided by Scott Jackson and Randy Morken. Interment followed in the Kinkead Cemetery in Alexandria. Casket bearers included Doug Fiala, Pat Haugen, Scott Haugen, Mark Sorenson, Jeff, Sorenson and Peter Fostervold. Honorary casket bearers included Lynda Wosmek, Sheri Platto, Kris Jackson, Leeanne Grosso, Becky Abbott and Jane Haas.
