James Dittberner

On September 14, 1938 James Elroy Dittberner was born in Fargo, North Dakota to Elda (Zaeske) and Elroy Dittberner.
Jim Graduated from Parkers Prairie High School. In 1962 he attended Dunwoody Institute in the Twin Cities. Jim served his country in the United States Army and received an honorable discharge in 1960. When Jim was stationed on the east coast at Fort Monmouth, he had two homes away from home, one was with Phyliss and John Tucker and the other was Jean and Ray Neidlein. At 8 years old, he fought polio and won.
On June 24, 1962 James and Sandra Lenz were married at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Parkers Prairie, MN. They lived in Maple Grove, MN. While there, Jim worked at Honeywell. In 1969, they moved to Miltona and then owned and operated the Leaf Valley Store. The last move was to the Dittberner Century Farm as the 4th generation. Jim and Sandi's marriage survived many raisings of the silo unloader.
A more kind and gentle husband, dad or grandfather would be very hard to find. He enjoyed hunting, trap shooting, taking Ashley and Megan fishing and the occasional trip to the casino. Jim was great at math, electrical and fixing electronics. In the Army, his job was working on guidance control systems. He was a trustee at Ebenezer Lutheran Church, a Leaf Valley Creamery board member and also a Leaf Valley Volunteer Fireman.
Death came on Saturday June 18, 2016 at home in his chair. Jim is survived by his wife Sandi, children Troy (Lori) Dittberner of Miltona and Darcy (Stuart) Wussow of Leaf Valley, three granddaughters Tara Thorstad, Ashley and Megan Wussow, 2 great grandchildren Clarice and Robert, sister JoAnn (Dale) Dropik of Leaf Valley, and brother Roger (Pat) Dittberner of Leaf Valley.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents Elda and Elroy.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday July 7, 2016, 6:00 pm at the Ebenezer Lutheran Church in Leaf Valley with visitation starting at 5pm with lunch and fellowship following the service at the Leaf Valley Town Hall. Arrangements are with the Anderson Funeral Home. www.andersonfuneral.net
