James Hall

October 12, 1917 — January 2, 1974

James Volner Hall was born on October 12, 1917, in Kansas City, Missouri, the son of Joseph & Edith (Volner) Hall. He graduated from Central High School in Kansas City and furthered his education at Curtis Wright Technical College in Burbank, California. While a student at Curtis Wright, he worked as an aircraft mechanic for Burbank Airport where he met Howard Hughes and other stunt flyers from the 1930?s before beginning his career in the aircraft industry at Consolidated Vultee. James was united in marriage to Mary Elizabeth on September 7, 1944 in San Bernardino, California. To this union one son, George, was born. Mary died on January 2, 1974. During his career Jim made aircraft wind tunnel models for different aircraft industries from the East Coast to the West Coast. He later owned and operated his own company for twenty years. Jim will be remembered as a perfectionist. Whatever he made was perfect and was intended to last forever. On July 20, 1974, Jim married Shirley Schriver in Glendale, California. The couple resided in California, and Las Vegas, and then moved to Alexandria in 1997. Shirley died in October of 2000. Throughout his life Jim enjoyed cars and going for long drives in the desert. He volunteered at Bethany Home for several years and drove van for First Lutheran Church. Memorial service was held on Friday, February 20, 2009, 11:00 a.m. at First Lutheran Church in Alexandria with Rev. Greg Billberg officiating. Burial was at Geneva Cemetery in Alexandria.
