Jim was born in Custer, South Dakota to Pearl and George Kaufman on August 19, 1938. In 1951, the family moved to Alexandria, Minnesota and bought a resort on Lake Cowdry. Jim graduated from Alexandria High School in 1956. After graduation Jim and a few of his friends enlisted and he served his country in the United States Navy for three years. Upon returning home he married LaVerna (Botzet) Auran in 1961, who brought her two children, Curt & Linda to this union. Of this marriage, two children were born: Dean & Lori. Jim and his family moved out to Montana where he drove truck for four years. The family then moved back to Minnesota where he drove truck for over 27 years. He also had a wrecking service and drove tour bus on weekends. He gave up driving at the age of 59. Jim spent the next ten years working for Douglas Machine. Jim enjoyed the outdoors his whole life. Hunting and fishing were his favorite hobbies. He also loved the mountains of the upper West, where he took his family on many camping trips. He also made Willow items and plant stands along with other crafts in his spare time. Jim died on Thursday, April 3, 2014. He will be missed by his wife of 52 years, LaVerna; children: Dean Kaufman & Lori (Mark) Rehovsky; step children Curt (Deb) Auran, Linda Auran; grandchildren: Nic Kaufman & Jason Thimmesh, Alex and Taylor Rehovsky; Shanon Hvezda, Ronnie Auran, & Tony Auran; best friend and hunting buddy, Ralph Tvrdik. Memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 12, 2014, 2:00 PM at the Anderson Funeral Home.
