James Arlan Peters, lovingly known as Jim, passed away peacefully on December 10, 2024, at the age of 83, at Knute Nelson in Alexandria, MN. Born in Springfield, MN, and raised in the close-knit town of Lucan, Jim made his mark on the world as a devoted family man and skilled mechanic.
Jim graduated from Milroy High School in 1959 and proudly served in the Minnesota National Guard from 1961 to 1969. However, it was a fishing trip to Alexandria that changed his life forever. It was there that he met Carol Jacobson, a Scandinavian girl who would become the love of his life. They married and settled in Milroy, where they raised their three children, Deborah, Todd, and Janell, and Jim ran Peters Standard Service Station for 13 wonderful years.
In their later years, Jim and Carol ventured to Alexandria, where he transitioned between mechanic jobs before retiring from Midstate Hydraulics in 2010. Embracing the joy of retirement, the couple sold their home, traded it for an RV, and split their time between summering in Alexandria near Todd and winters in sunny Florida with Janell.
A passionate fisherman and Harley enthusiast, Jim relished every moment spent in nature and on the open road. But above all, he cherished his family. Whether it was making memories with his children or showering love on his grandchildren, family was everything to Jim. He was a devoted husband, a caring father, and a doting grandfather who always made time to lend a helping hand or share a chuckle.
Jim is survived by his son, Todd and Jennifer Peters; daughter, Janell and Aaron Curtis; grandchildren, Landon Curtis, Sierra Peters, Shelby Peters, Logan Curtis, and Katelyn Curtis; brothers, Robert (Alma) Peters and Richard Jr. (Janice) Peters; nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Jim was preceded in death by his wife, Carol Peters, daughter, Deborah Peters, and his parents.
A Celebration of Jim's life will be held on Saturday, December 21, 2024, at 11 AM at the Anderson Funeral Home Chapel.
A visitation will take place on hour prior to the service on Saturday.
Interment will be in Geneva Cemetery in Alexandria.
