James Patrick Stanton was born on September 4, 1927 in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin to James and Louise (Cashman) Stanton. Jim was a Navy veteran of WWII and served on an aircraft carrier in the South Pacific. He worked as a truck driver and a security officer for American Security until retiring in 1999. Jim was a life member of Disabled American Veterans and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He also was a member of the American Legion Post 555 of NE Minneapolis. Jim enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, feeding birds and the watching the squirrels. He also enjoyed bowling, music, playing the guitar, and watching the Minnesota Vikings. Most of all he loved spending times with the grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Jim died on Saturday, September 4, 2010 at Bethany Home in Alexandria at the age of 83. He is survived by his sons, Gary Stanton and Stephen Stanton; daughter, Barbara Gilbertson; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Jim is preceded in death by his son, Laurance Stanton and parents, James P. Sr. and Louise Stanton. A funeral service was held on Monday, September 13, 2010 at the Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria with Reverend Fred Fink officiating. Interment was held in Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis. Casket bearers were Steve Stanton, Brian Stanton, Stephen Stanton, and Rex Sweetwater. Military Honors were provided by Alexandria American Legion Post 936 and VFW Post 87 and Fort Snelling National Honor Guard. Arrangements are with Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria.
