Janet Severson

Janet ViAnn (Anderson) Severson was born on January 17, 1927 in Evansville Township, Douglas County. She was the daughter of Edwin and Ida (Carlson) Anderson. She was baptized and confirmed at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Evansville. Janet graduated from Evansville High School in 1945. After graduation she worked as a bookkeeper at the Co-op Creamery in Evansville and Alexandria. Janet married Norman Dennis Severson on October 18, 1947 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Evansville. They lived in Evansville and farmed with Edwin Anderson. In 1955, the family moved to Brandon where they continued to farm. Janet was an active member of Faith Lutheran Church in Evansville where she belonged to the Ladies Aide. She was also a member of the Legion Auxiliary Post #278 in Brandon for over 50 years. Janet enjoyed visiting with family and friends. She made family gatherings special by always sharing a memory of her life with her grandchildren. Janet died on Wednesday, January 16, 2008 at the age of eighty. She is survived by her children, Wayne (Julane) Severson of South St. Paul, Jenell (Dennis) Week of Evansville, and Loren Severson of Brandon; seven grandchildren, Caroline Severson, Laura Severson, Mark Severson, Courtney Severson, Andrew Week, Emilie (Chris) Larson, and Adam Week; great-granddaughter, Ellie Severson, and brother-in-law, Deloyd (Valerie) Johnson of Ashby. She was preceded in death by her parents, Edwin and Ida; husband, Norman; and sister, Lorraine Johnson. A funeral service was held on Monday, January 21, 2008 at Faith Lutheran Church in Evansville with Reverend Irving Arnquist officiating. Music was provided by organist, Dorothy Kammerer and soloist, Ginny Nelson. Interment was held in the Mound Grove Cemetery in Evansville. Casket bearers were Andrew Week, Adam Week, Mark Severson, Chris Larson, Justyn Johnson, Ted Rud, Jake Skalicky, and Matt Mesa. Arrangements are with the Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria.
