Jan was born on January 25, 1942, in Slayton, Minnesota, to the late John “Jack” and Harriet (Hansen) Carsten. In love, her parents brought her to the waters of holy baptism on March 1. In 1955, she made her confirmation vows of lifelong faithfulness to her Savior, Jesus. God graciously watched over and blessed His child all of her days.
Jan was a 1960 graduate of Heron Lake High School. On October 2, 1962, she married Donald Aden. They were blessed with a faithful and loving marriage for 55 years. In 1974, they relocated to Olivia, MN. She took pride in her work and became the assistant to the head of operations at Southern Minnesota Sugar Beet Co-operative. In 2003, they retired in Alexandria, MN to enjoy the lakes they loved. She found her part-time employment at the Prairie Senior Cottages in Alexandria rewarding as well. Jan and Don began to spend their winter months in Texas, where they made many more wonderful friends.
Jan cherished her family and loved caring for others. She liked serving at church and especially enjoyed the Jesus Cares Ministry. In retirement, she discovered a passion for quilting. She loved making gifts for others with her quilting group or on her own.
In His infinite wisdom and grace, her Savior called her into His loving arms this past Monday, February 5, 2018, at the age of 76. Jan passed away surrounded by family at her home in Alexandria and was welcomed home to eternal life in heaven, winning her battle against Leukemia.
Jan is survived by her husband Don; their children: Shelly (Rodney) Decker, Darin (Karla) Aden, and Karla (Lyle) Mullenbach; her siblings: Judy (Jim) Stumpf, Jim (Rosie) Carsten, Joan (Gary) Erpestad; her sister-in-law Linda Olson; her eight grandchildren: Erica (Dan) Stephens, Jason (fiance' Kenzie) Decker, Caitlin Decker, Lydia, Maya, Joshua, and Anna Aden, and Adam Mullenbach; her great granddaughter, Everly Stephens, as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents: Jack and Harriet Carsten, her father and mother-in-law: Walter and Frieda Aden, her sister-in-law: LaVonne Leifgren, and her brother-in-law, Dale Olson.
