Janice Marjorie (Jenny) Nelson was born in Moorhead, Minnesota, on June 7, 1954, the daughter of Lawrence A. and June V. (Nyberg) Moen. She attended schools in Moorhead and moved to Alexandria as a young adult. On July, 22, 1977, Jenny was united in marriage to Gary Nelson at the Calvary Lutheran Church in Alexandria. The couple continued to live in Alexandria where Jenny was employed at Bethany Home as a nurse?s aid and later as a Trained Medical Assistant. She then left to work at Fingerhut for seven years before wanting to return to the medical profession. In her 40?s she enrolled at Alexandria Technical College and passed the Licensed Practical Nursing program. At that time she began working at Knute Nelson as an LPN. Jenny?s family remembers her as being extremely caring and compassionate. She enjoyed cooking, crafts, camping, and fishing, but most of all, she just enjoyed being around her family, including her grandchildren and the dogs. Jenny died on Thursday, November 27, 20008, (Thanksgiving Day) at the age of 54 years from complications of breast cancer. She is survived by her husband Gary Nelson of Alexandria; children Ken (and wife Rebecca) Anderson of Alexandria; Shawn (and wife Jessica) Nelson of Evansville, and Shane (and girlfriend Elizabeth Burbank) Nelson of Alexandria. She is also survived by seven grandchildren, Ashley and Devon Anderson, Blaze and Tatum Nelson, Kia Beyer-Andel, and Mariah and Faith Nelson. Also surviving are her sisters Gladys Anderson of Alexandria and Lorraine (Putt) Muzik of Alexandria. Jennie was preceded in death by her parents. Memorial services were held on Monday, December 1, 2008, from the Anderson Funeral Chapel in Alexandria, Minnesota, with Rev. Grant Aaseng officiating. Music was provided by Kim Byrne. Inurnment was in the Kinkead Cemetery in Alexandria, Minnesota. Arrangements were with the Anderson Funeral Home, Alexandria.
