Janice K. Pederson age 72 of Brandon died on Monday, August 10, 2015 at her home. A Funeral Service will be held 10:30 AM on Saturday, August 15, 2015 at Grace Lutheran Church in Brandon. Visitation will be held 5-7 PM on Friday, August 14, 2015 at Shalom Lutheran Church in Alexandria and one hour prior to the service at Grace Lutheran Church on Saturday.
OBITUARY
Janice Kay (Podoll) Pederson, a much loved wife, mother and grandmother passed away peacefully at her home on Lake Chippewa near Brandon, MN on August 10, 2015, after bravely fighting cancer for over five years. Jan was born to Orwell and Ruth Podoll in Granite Falls, MN on January 6, 1943. Jan graduated from Granite Falls High School in 1961 and then attended Cliff’s Cosmetology College in Minneapolis.
Jan married David Pederson on December 15, 1962 and was blessed with three children and eleven grandchildren. She held part-time clerical and cashiering positions while the children were growing up in Apple Valley, MN. In 1990, Dave and Jan purchased Anderson Florist & Greenhouse and Landscaping in Alexandria, which they sold in 2002. They retired and moved to their lake home on Lake Chippewa and wintered in Arizona.
Jan was a loving and caring mother and grandmother. She loved to bake and play games with her grandchildren. In her retirement years she took up oil painting and colored pencil which was a life time dream. Bird watching also became a passion as she would spend hours watching, feeding and identifying birds from her lake home windows. She enjoyed flowers and had many flower gardens and flower pots. Jan enjoyed playing bridge and was a part of several bridge clubs.
Jan is survived by her husband, David; daughters, Kimberly (Kelly) Hamson of Cushing, MN, and Heidi (Jed) Trachte of New Prague, MN; son, Rick (Bridget) Pederson of Omaha, NE; sisters, Carol (Odell) Rude of Granite Falls, Kathy Larson of Apple Valley; and eleven grandchildren, Noah, Faith, & Rebecca Hamson, Nikki, Cory, Camryn, Ava & Benea Pederson; Ryan, Jake, & Lexie Trachte.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Marcine Nephew; and brother-in-law, Dale Larson.
A funeral service will be held 10:30 AM, Saturday, August 15, 2015 at Grace Lutheran Church in Brandon. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 PM Friday at Shalom Lutheran Church in Alexandria and also one hour prior to the service at church in Brandon.
