Jason Huber-Fredin

February 18, 1971 — June 1, 2017

Jason Eugene Fredin was born in Minneapolis, MN on February 18, 1971 to Wayne and Kathy (Hislop) Fredin. In October 1971 the family moved back to Windom, MN where Jason attended Elementary School, K-6 grade. In August, 1983, the now family of 5 moved to the Alexandria area, there Jason completed 7-10 grades. He ended his high school years, graduating from Hoffman-Kensington High School in May 1989. He attended MN West Community Tech College in Granite Falls, MN with an AA degree in Fluid Power. His career took him to several cities – Salt Lake City, Houston, Kansas City, Denver, Lincoln, and Minneapolis.
Growing up on a dairy farm, Jason was delighted being outdoors. He was all boy loving dogs, cats, bugs, and especially trying to figure out how things worked – machinery and all. While in school he participated in band, choir, speech, wrestling, track, and 4-H. His first 4-H calf, "Sammie", was so special to him. He won several trips to the State Fair with his animals. Throughout his years growing up, he and Brad and Meredith had many good times together making forts, sledding, numerous water fights, helping on the family farm, being in 4-H together, and many, many others. Jason also had a love for the elderly, working at the Good Samaritan Home in Hoffman during high school years. The family enjoyed countless good times on the farm, trips to San Antonio, Milwaukee, and vacationing up north.
While in Kansas City, Jason rekindled his love of music and was a member of the Heartland Men's choir. There he met life-long friends. He also belonged to choirs while living in Minneapolis. In 2005, Jason met Steve Huber. Their love for one another grew throughout their 12 years together. Loving the outdoors, they enjoyed camping, visiting Minnehaha Falls, the St. Paul Conservatory, trips to Duluth, and spending time with family and friends. They also loved music and attended many professional concerts and musicals. Jason and Steve were married 10 days after his diagnosis of pancreatic cancer. He continued to live each day as normally as possible.
Jason loved Alyssa, his step daughter, and enjoyed spending time with her. The love he had for her and his nieces and nephews was reflected through his eyes. He was our "go to" person for questions about computer and cell phone operations and was usually patient! The diagnosis of pancreatic cancer was devastating to him and everyone who knew and loved him. He fought with courage, dignity, grace, and determination. Throughout his battle and until two weeks ago, Jason continued to enjoy his work at Applied Industrial as a Fluid Power Specialist. Jason will be remembered as being a gentle and good man, a sweet, compassionate, supportive son, brother, brother-in-law, uncle, spouse, dad (step), and friend. He will be missed immensely.
Jason is survived by his husband, Steve; step-daughter, Alyssa; parents, Wayne and Kathy Fredin; brother, Brad (Amy) Fredin; sister, Meredith (Bruce) Runge; 7 nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Adrian and Hope Hislop and Merlin and Ann Fredin.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 6, 2017, 2:00 PM at the United Methodist Church in Alexandria.
