OBITUARY Jeanette Audrey Chan was born on February 18, 1928 in Reno Township, MN, the daughter of John and Mary (Tvrdik) Craig. She graduated from Central High School in 1946 and continued her education by attending a teachers college in Glenwood, MN. She then taught in Forada and Lake Rachel country schools. Jeanette was united in marriage with Fred Chan on August 17, 1948 at St. John Nepomuk Catholic Church near Lake Reno. Three sons and a daughter were born to them. Jeanette stayed at home to raise her children and taught them many lessons in life by the way she lived her own life. After her children had finished high school Jeanette and her friend Wanda Karrow started their own business out of Jeanette?s home called C&K Upholstery. She upholstered countless chairs, seat cushions, furniture and draperies over the years. Jeanette was a great cook and enjoyed baking. She knew how to knit and sew clothes, mittens, and quilts. She also grew vegetables and flowers. Jeanette was an independent woman who knew how to solve problems and fix almost anything. She was a member of St. Mary?s Catholic Church and ladies guild. She was also a member of the Alexandria VFW Auxiliary. She will be missed by those who knew and loved her. Jeanette A. Chan died on Wednesday, August 17, 2011 at the Douglas County Hospital at the age of 83 years old. She is survived by her children, Allan J. and wife, Pat Chan of Maple Grove, Jeffrey Chan and wife Lois of Lake Reno; Patricia and husband. Rick Peterson of Alexandria; six grandchildren, Alison (Jeff) Anderson of Spring Lake Park, MN; Lindsey Peterson of Alexandria; Nathan (Amy) Chan of Atlanta, GA; Andrew (Elaine) Chanova of Maple Grove, MN; Cole (Mindy) Meyer of Lake Reno; and Paige (Jay) Jahnke of Otsego, MN; nine great grandchildren Hailey and Hunter Anderson; Harrison and Charlotte Chan; Alex Chanova; Tyson and Brooklyn Meyer; and Cail and Quin Jahnke. She was preceded in death by her husband Fred Chan, son Bruce Chan, parents, and a sister Elaine Navratil. A funeral mass was held on Saturday, August 20, 2011 at St. Mary?s Catholic Church in Alexandria with the Reverend Steve Binsfeld officiating. Interment was in the St. John Nepomuk Catholic Cemetery. Casket Bearers were Nathan Chan, Andrew Chanova, Cole Meyer, Jay Jahnke, Jeff Anderson,and Matthew Chan. Honorary Casket Bearers were Jeanette?s grandchildren and great grandchildren.
