Jeanne Giles

Jeanne (Osborn) Giles was born on March 12, 1922, in Chicago, IL to Charles and Jeannette (Acker) Osborn.  She graduated from High School in Chicago.  She attended college and earned a nursing degree and worked at the hospital in Cook County in Chicago as an OB nurse.

Jeanne was united in marriage to Gerald W. Giles on February 26, 1942.  The couple lived a short time in Norridge, IL, Mount Morris, MI and Flint, MI.  In April of 1952, the couple moved to Minneapolis, where Jeanne raised their 4 children, Rick, Dale, Jan and Pati.  Jeanne was active with her boys as a Den Mother with the Boy Scouts.  She was also very active in her church at Lake Harriet Baptist Church in Minneapolis, where she was baptized and accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior.  She enjoyed singing in the church choir and being in the Women’s Ministry.  After being in Minneapolis 19 years the couple moved to West Des Moines, IA.  Jeanne became active at Westchester Evangelical Free Church in Urbandale, IA.  She was active with the church choir, Evangelism Explosion, teaching for AWANA and Stonecroft Ministries.  The couple moved to Alexandria in September 2004, to be closer to family.

Jeanne enjoyed golfing, bowling and playing tennis, which she did until 75.  She also enjoyed doing cross-stitch making baby blankets for her grandchildren.  Jeanne enjoyed family and friends coming over and would love to make a full meal with all the fixings.  She was a wonderful and faithful caregiver to her husband, Gerald with all his health issues that he dealt with for 17 years until his death in September of 2010.

Jeanne died on Sunday, February 25, 2018, at the Douglas County Hospital at the age of 95.  She is survived by her sons, Rick (Mary) Giles of Springfield, MO and Dale (Dianne) Giles of Clearlake, MN; daughters, Jan (Ray) Ortlund of Franklin, TN and Pati (Darryl) Knappen of Alexandria, MN; grandchildren, David (Jennifer) Giles, Julie (Ryan) DeWilde, Jonathan Giles, Jillaine (Jon) McPherson, Jennalyn (Bryan) Kuroda, Eric (Erin) Ortlund, Krista (John) Scheidt, Dane (Stacey) Ortlund, Gavin (Esther) Ortlund, Jennifer (Mark) Paschke, and Joelle (Jared) Benson; and 29 great-grandchildren.  Jeanne is preceded in death by her husband, Gerald; granddaughter, Sarah Giles; parents, Charles and Jeannette; brother, Eddie Osborn; and sister, Pat Graziano.

A funeral service will be held 10: 00 AM on Saturday, March 3, 2018, at Cornerstone Church with Reverend Darryl Knappen officiating.  Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.  Interment will be held at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis on Monday, March 5, 2018, at 10:35 meeting assembly area #6.
