Jerry W. Jensen

Jerry Wallace Jensen, age 93, passed away Thursday, December 14, 2023, at Community Memorial Home in Osakis, MN. 

Jerry Wallace Jensen was born March 19, 1930, the only child, to Wallace and Hazel (Peterson) Jensen of Nelson, MN. He spent his young years in Nelson, then graduated from high school in Alexandria, MN. He served four years in the Army in Army Ordnance in Alaska. He was later in the U.S. Air Force Reserve for 12 years as firearms instructor.

He married Phyllis Marilyn Swanson on October 9, 1954, at Fahlun Lutheran Church, Nelson, MN. they made their home east of Alexandria and had three daughters: Lynn, Sue, and Ann. They were married 59 years until Phyllis's passing in January, 2014.

Jerry had several sales careers, including selling guns and firefighting equipment. His passion was firearms and shared his talents with the community by teaching Hunter Safety to area youngsters and others for 50 years. In 2006, he was recognized by the DNR for 50 years as a volunteer safety instructor teaching firearm safety and Hunter Education. At that time he was one of only ten to receive such an award. 

He was preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis, with whom he is once again happily dancing to a Jimmy Jenson tune.

Jerry is survived by three daughters, Lynn (Pete Janssen) Jensen Holdingford, MN, Sue (Robert) Valenta, Montpelier, ND; Ann (Jay) Luloff, Sauk Centre, MN; Six grandchildren, Joshua (Amber Wolbeck) Osakis, MN, Emily Luloff, Sauk Centre, MN, and Kaitlyn Luloff, Alexandria, MN, Abram (Alannah Dosh) Valenta, Montpelier, ND, Amanda (Flinton) Stehr, Zumbrota, MN, Isaac Valenta, Montpelier, ND; One great-grandson, Theodore Valenta.

Visitation will be Friday, December 22, 2023, at Anderson Funeral Home, Alexandria, MN from 4-6pm. Funeral service at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church, Nelson, MN on Saturday, December 23, 2023, at 1:00. Inurnment- Nelson Cemetery following the service.
