Our Mother, Joan Ann Collins was born on September 13, 1943 in Chehalis, Wa to Shiner-Christian Herald Johnson and Rose Cormier-Johnson. She was the 6th of 7 children and is survived by her twin brother Chuck Johnson and 5 other siblings.
As a youth she attended St. Joseph's school and church. She was an avid baseball player and berry picker. She graduated from St. Joseph's Hospital-School of Nursing, Class of 1961, in Tacoma, Wa with a 3 year diploma in nursing as an RN.
She loved the patients in geriatric and hospice nursing as well as her fellow nurses.
Joan met the love of her life, Oakley Collins and was married to him in 1965 in Atlanta, Georgia. They were married for 37 years.
They established their first home together in Dover, Delaware and proceeded to have the first 3 of their 5 children; Mark Andrew (Holly), Jennifer Rose (Gary) and Matthew Charles. In 1979 they moved to Chehalis, Wa and had their remaining two children; John Paul (Grace) and Luke Anthony.
Ten wonderful grandchildren brought joy to Joan's life; Tyler, Sitka, Ivan, Elijah, Mathias, Ava, Hayden, Lilly, River and Samara. She wished that they each would have an intimate relationship with their holy creator as they journey through their life and to know that they are truly loved.
Several days before Joan's passing friends came to say rosary over her daily.
In the last hours her prayer group members and friends sung and prayed her into her God's arms. It was a comfort to know she had so many light filled people guiding her soul in its final journey home.
She passed on into the eternal light at 6:45 on November 12, 2015 in Alexandria, Mn. We who knew her feel we have been blessed by Joan's living example of prayerful love, embodied. May she now rest in peace.
