Joan LaVonne (Brede) Tweet the daughter of Ida Block was born on February 13, 1939 in Minneapolis, MN. She grew up in Garfield and later moved to Alexandria where she graduated. Joan devoted her life to care for others, which she did for 31 years as a nurse at Bethany Home and then worked a few years at Clearwater Suites until she retired. She was a caretaker until the very end and was always concerned for the well being of her children. She was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt. Joan loved taking walks with her dog, Cassie, being with the grandchildren and great-grandchildren, doing crossword puzzles, reading and spending time with family and friends. She enjoyed being a homemaker and always had an open door policy for her family no matter what the circumstances. Joan died on Saturday, December 29, 2012 at St. Mary?s Hospital in Rochester at the age of 73. She is survived by her son, Donavon Nelson of Alexandria; daughters, Pam Meyer of Alexandria and Sue Johnson of Osakis; grandchildren, Lacy (Corey) Svor, Dan Meyer, Jake Nelson, Mike Nelson, Stephanie Nelson; great-grandchildren, Chloe, Sheyenne, Jacob, and Mariah Nelson; Maralyne Meyer, and Kylee Nelson; brother, Richard (Kay) Block of Alexandria; sister, Donna Southerling of Alexandria; several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Joan is preceded in death by her mother, Ida Block; brother-in-law, Fritz Southerling; niece, Kim Quinn; aunts, uncles and cousins. A memorial service was held on Friday, January 4, 2013 at the Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria with Reverend David Hinz officiating. Inurnment was in Kinkead Cemetery in Alexandria. Arrangements are with the Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria
