John Bell

John “Jack” Martin Bell was born on September 28, 1929, one of four children, to Robert and Emma (Zimmerman) Bell of Hancock, Minnesota. Jack was raised in Hancock and was confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church. Jack graduated from Hancock High School. After high school he attended college for a year before returning to Hancock and running the local grocery store with his brother in 1950. In 1952 the family moved to rural Hancock and started farming full time for the next fifteen years. After retiring from farming, Jack started working at Steinbring Motors in Alexandria as a car salesman; he worked for Steinbring’s for 18 years retiring as the new car sales manager.
Jack and Frances Nibbe were married in 1950; to this union four children were born. In the sixty five years they were married, they made many memories, had lots of laughs and lived to enjoy their four children, six grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and were members of Zion Lutheran Church for fifty years. He was the husband and father that despite his busy schedule, was always present.
Jack was a person who fixed things himself and was always tinkering on radios or making gifts out of wood. He would talk about tires and tractors with anyone. Jack loved cowboys, whether it was classic western TV shows or reading Louis L`amour books. Jack and Fran spent their retirement winters in Texas. He was a person who was thrifty, but more importantly, he was an honest man who was devoted to his family.
On Thursday, October 29, 2015 Jack died at the age of eight six years. He is preceded in death by a brother and sister. He is survived by his wife, Fran; children, Brenda Walsten and husband, Timothy, Marcia Bell (Peter Rosendahl), Darla Brink and husband, Jim, and David Bell; grandchildren, Sara Ruggiero and husband, Chris, Shannon Walsten, Diana Walsten, Kayla Walsten, Martin Woessner, and Michael Woessner; six great grandchildren; and brother, Zera “Zip” Bell.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Zion Lutheran School, Alexandria, MN.
