John Kalina

John Wencil Kalina was born on July 30, 1927 in Reno Township, Pope County, Minnesota to John F and Clara (Benesh) Kalina. He was baptized and confirmed at St. John Nepomuk Catholic Church in Reno Township. John attended school through the eighth grade at District 21, Reno School. John was united in marriage to Delores ?Dorsey? Rajdl at St. Mary?s Catholic Church as St. John Nepumuk Catholic Church was being rebuilt after a fire. The couple was blessed with three children, Diane, Debra, and David. They lived on John?s family farm until 1950 when John and Dorsey purchased Uncle Frank Benesh?s dairy farm. The family farmed together and the son, David took over the operation of the farm. In 1984, John and Dorsey purchased an Alexandria Technical College house and moved it to the north side of the farm. John enjoyed being with people and loved to celebrate anything and everything with a large meal. He loved old time music and loved to dance. They enjoyed going dancing and going to the ?Old? Lakeside Ballroom, Gibbon, Cottage Grove, Gene?s Barn, Bird Island, Delwin, and the Larry Olson Farm. John and Dorsey also enjoyed dancing with the Heartland Polka Club. John belonged to the District 21 Country School Board, the same school he and his children attended. John died on Sunday, April 6, 2014 at Bethany Home in Alexandria at the age of 86. He is survived by daughters, Diane (Donovan) Trousil of Alexandria and Debra Tvrdik of Alexandria; son, David (Valerie) Kalina of Alexandria; grandchildren (who called him ?Grandpa Bucky?), Corey Trousil, LeeAnn Hymore, Charity Kalina, Chad Kalina, Katie Tvrdik, Adam Tvrdik, Chris Kalina; great-grandchildren, Alexis and Sarah Trousil, and Wyatt Tvrdik; sister, Dorreen (Art) Chermak of Alexandria; sisters-in-law, Sandra Kalina of Glenwood and Betty (Ed) Bearse of Anoka; and brother-in-law, Donald Dvorsak. John was preceded in death by his wife, Dorsey, parents, John and Clara; sisters, Clara Kroulik, Anna Dvorsak, Marie Dvorsak, and Rose Ann Kalina; and brother, Joe Kalina. A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Saturday, April 12, 2014 at St. John Nepomuk Catholic Church in Reno Township with Father Roger Thoennes officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery. Arrangements are with the Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria
