OBITUARY John Shelru Melin was born on March 8, 1941 in Alexandria, MN the son of Lloyd and Myrtle (Jensen) Melin. He grew up and attended high school in Hoffman, MN. John soon met Marjorie Ingebritson, the ?Love of His Life? at Osterberg?s Restaurant in 1961. He knew from the moment he saw her that he wanted to marry her. After dating for two years they were united in marriage on November 27, 1963 at Zion Lutheran Church in Alexandria. To this union two children were born Curtis and Deborah. They lived on Lake Mary and raised their children to always love one another. John worked for ALP and retired in 1997 at the age of 56 years old. He enjoyed eight years of retirement before suffering a stroke in 2005. John was kind gentle man who never complained and always made a point to say ?I Love You? to his wife, children and grandchildren. He had a special place in his heart for all of his grandchildren. He kept a watchful eye on them and enjoyed entertaining them at the lake when they visited. John enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren play sports and water skiing. John enjoyed hunting with his buddies since the early 1970?s. John and his friends made the annual trip to Park Rapids, MN where deer camp was set up. He will be missed by those who knew and loved him. John S. Melin died on Monday, October 21, 2013 at his home surrounded by the love of his family at the age of 72 years old. His is survived by his wife of 49 years Marjorie Melin of Alexandria; son Curt (Tina) Melin of Sheridan, WY; daughter Deb (Kyle) Hvezda of Alexandria; grandchildren Anna Melin, Matthew John Melin, Nicole Hvezda, Leah Hvezda, and Heather Hvezda; sister Mary (Mike) Blossom of Maplewood, MN; many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, grandson Ryan Hvezda, and a brother Lloyd Melin Jr. A funeral service was held on Thursday, October 24, 2013 at Zion Lutheran Church in Alexandria with the Reverend David Hinz and Geoff Gronewald officiating. Mertice Brueske was the organist and Dan Olson was the soloist. Interment was in the Evergreen Cemetery. Casket Bearers were Jason Hanak, Joel Hanak, Tom Herr, Leighton Brown, Omer Gustafson, Don Borgmann, Dennis Rapp, and Jerry Rapp. Honorary Casket Bearers were all of John?s grandchildren.
