John Harold Vanscoik was born on June 2, 1961, to Roy and Gwendolyn (Kunkle) Vanscoik in Casper, Wyoming. He grew up in Minnesota and graduated high school from Mora, MN where he earned a brown belt in karate. After high school, John enrolled in the Army and went to bootcamp at Fort Jackson. He was stationed in Germany for a year before being honorably discharged due to an injury incurred while serving his country.
John met Karen Middaugh and they were blessed with a son, Sean. He was the ring bearer at their wedding on August 25, 1989 at Elim Lutheran Church in Robbinsdale, MN. To this union 3 more children were born: Megan, Devon, and Jordan. John enjoyed playing Nintendo with his children and took them on many mini adventures. He adored babies, especially his grandchildren, and babies loved him. One of his biggest joys in life came from being a Papa to his grandchildren.
John loved the Vikings and was proud to say that he was born the same year that they began playing in the NFL. He enjoyed playing bingo, cards, and cribbage, watching history shows and wrestling, and had no problem stirring the pot every now and again purely for entertainment purposes. John had a happy demeanor who loved making jokes. He was extremely caring and giving and would open his home to anyone in need. He will be dearly missed.
