John Leroy Verlennich was born July 30, 1942 in Duluth, Minnesota to Joseph Nicholas and Margaret Catherine (Johnson) Verlennich. John graduated from Morgan Park High School and the University of Minnesota at Duluth. John majored in Business and Economics. He moved to Alexandria, Minnesota in 1964 and worked for State Farm Insurance as an adjustor. He was also involved with Real Estate. John was the Pope County Assessor for many years. He also was the Kennebec County Assessor. He worked later as an appraiser in Property Taxes for the Minnesota Department of Revenue in St. Paul. John was married to Julie Ellen Green on July 9, 2005 at the Church of St. Mary in Alexandria. John was the proud father of his two sons Mike and Dave. John enjoyed hunting deer, ducks, and geese. He loved fishing on Lake Latoka and neighboring lakes. He traveled to Canada to pursue these passions. He was an ardent racquetball player and traveled to the Cities for tournaments. John also had a great interest in computers. John died on Saturday, May 01, 2010 at his home at the age of 67. John is survived by his wife Julie, and sons: Mike (Amy) of Detroit Lakes, Dave (Lori) of Minneapolis, 13 grandchildren, one sister, Janet Terwey and one brother Dean (Jyl) of Duluth, two nephews and one niece. He is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Margaret; wife, Sharon Harp Verlennich; and brother-in-law, Duane Terwey. A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Wednesday, May 5, 2010 at the Church of St. Mary in Alexandria with Reverend Fred Fink officiating. Interment was in St. Jacobs Catholic Church in Graettinger, IA. Casket bearers were Allan Terwey, Steve Verlennich, Bruce Barnstable, Sam Davidson, Darrell Manselle, Gary Tandberg, William Green, Kevin Green, and Bruno Tonn. Honorary casket bearers were Robert Montbriand, Charles Foslien, Ralph Tillitt, Richard Pemberton, Steven Waller, William Grove, and Robert Janke. Arrangements are with the Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria.
