John Westphal

John Wallace Westphal was born on August 12, 1932, in Hillsboro, Illinois, the son of Edward and Opal (Kieslar) Westphal. He attended school in Hillsboro and Berwyn Schools and graduated from Glenbard High School.
On June 27, 1953, John was united in marriage to Shirley Sherman. To this union two children were born, Michael and Cynthia. The family lived in Warrenville, Illinois where John worked for a Dry Cleaning Factory and as a Janitor for the Public Schools. The Westphals’ were also members of Community Baptist Church. In 1965, they moved to Kingston, Illinois where John worked for Chicago Title Insurance Co. starting as a Janitor and later on took care of Mortgages for the company. They were members of First Baptist Church while living in Kingston.
After twenty five years of living in Kingston John and Shirley retired to Lake Miltona. John enjoyed taking friends out for a ride on the pontoon and fishing. For many years John enjoyed pheasant hunting and continued that in his early years of retirement.
He will be remembered for his love of people, animals and telling jokes.
John died on Friday, November 14, 2014 at the St. Williams Care Center in Parkers Prairie. He is survived by his wife, Shirley of Miltona; son, Michael of Aurora, Illinois; daughter, Cynthia Sturm of Belvidere, Illinois; four grandchildren: Julie, Michael, Mark, Justin; two great grandchildren: Hailey & Gavin; step brother, Robert.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services were held on Monday, November 17, 2014, 2:00 PM at the Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria with Rev. Craig Dahl officiating. Arrangements were with the Anderson Funeral Home. www.andersonfuneral.net
