Jon Matthew Magnuson was born December 8, 1952 in St. Paul, Minnesota to Ray and Agnes (Meysembourg) Magnuson. He graduated from North St. Paul High School in 1970. He enlisted in the U.S. Army and served both the Army and the National Guard from 1972-1974. Jon was united in marriage to Donna Geisbauer in St. Paul on February 16, 1974. Jon started working as a police officer for White Bear Lake Police Department in June of 1976 and served there for 11 years. Jon then started working as an instructor at the Law Enforcement Training Center in Bloomington until August 1989. The family relocated to Alexandria where Jon continued his teaching as an instructor of the Law Enforcement program at the Alexandria Technical and Community College. Jon enjoyed poker, road trips, music (especially rock and roll), putzing with stuff, being outdoors, hunting, camping, working on his manicured yard, spending time with his wife in the flower garden, sitting on the front porch, and putting up Christmas lights. Most of all Jon loved his family; he adored his daughters-in-law and loved being a grandfather and spending time with his grandchildren. Jon died on Thursday, November 15, 2012 at his home at the age of 59. He is survived by his loving wife, Donna; sons, Matt (Cyndi) of Garfield, Josh (Becky) of St. Paul, and Eric (Amanda) of Brandon; grandchildren, Emma, Madison, Aiden, Samantha, Elias, Hazel, Olive, and Adric; three brothers and 2 sisters; and many nieces and nephews. Jon is preceded in death by his parents, Ray and Agnes; and two brothers and one sister. A memorial service was held on Tuesday, November 20, 2012 at the Alexandria Technical and Community College in the Law Enforcement Training Center in Alexandria with his nephew, Father Sean Magnuson officiating. Music was provided by Jennifer Wegner. Law Enforcement Honors were provided by the Douglas County Sheriff?s Honor Guard. Military Honors were provided by the Alexandria American Legion Post 87, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 936, and the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery Honor Guard. Inurnment was in the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery at Camp Ripley, Minnesota. Honorary urn bearers were Jeffrey McPhail, Austin Daniels, Mitchell Denny, Kim Price, Philip Davis, and Kurt Cocker.
