Joseph Schiele, 94, of Brandon, MN, died peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, December 16, 2015.
He was born December 1, 1921 to Michael and Margaret (Bichler) Schiele in Linton, ND. He rode a pinto pony to attend country school there and later graduated from Linton High School. While studying Veterinary Science at North Dakota State University in 1942, he enlisted in the United States Navy and trained at Texas A&M and in Maryland before serving overseas as an Aviation Electronics Technician. He was discharged in 1946. He was a lifetime member of The American Legion of Millerville.
During, WWII, his parents moved to Millerville, MN and there he met and married Betty Lenore Olson, January 8, 1947. Nine children were born to this union. In 1947 he bought a restaurant and grocery store in Millerville and operated that until it was destroyed by fire 1951. He then began farming and eventually settled at Hunt Lake Farm near Evansville. He raised and showed registered Holstein cattle locally and nationally. In 1962 he began a career in road construction and much of his work related to the construction of Interstate 94 as he supervised the completion of 16 miles west of Minneapolis. At age 65 he started F & S Concrete Paving which he ran until the age of 87.
Joe will be remembered by his family as an excellent chef who enjoyed cooking every day. He also greatly enjoyed dancing to big band music, playing cards, pool and especially his grandchildren. For eighteen years Joe and Betty wintered in Apache Junction, Arizona until 2013
Joe is survived by his wife of 68 years, Betty Schiele of Brandon, one son, Thomas (friend, Arlene) of Fergus Falls, eight daughters, Linda (Chuck) Schmidt of Hamel, MN, Mary (Gene) Rossum of Brandon, Sandra (Earl) Lang of Bemidji, Margaret (Wayne) Stafford of Park City Utah, Carol (Frank) Hanish of Garfield, Joan (Phillip) Langr of Waseca, Karen (Glenn) Peterson of Garfield, and Constance (Richard) Coleman of Clinton, MS, sisters Adeline Kapphahn of Fergus Falls, Vivian Nagel of Alexandria, brothers Kenneth (Jan) Schiele of Maple Plain, Wallace (Pam) Schiele of Guernsey, WY, 22 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Mary Ann Olson and Barbara Gabriel, brothers Edmund and Wilfred Schiele, and sons in law Steven Wagner and Paul Hart.

Burial will be held 11 AM Tuesday, December 22, 2015 at the Church of St. Ann in Brandon. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 PM Monday at St. Ann’s with parish prayers beginning at 7 PM. Additional visitation will be from 10 to 11 AM Tuesday at the church. Arrangements are with the Anderson Funeral Home.
