Joseph Syvrud Jr.

Joseph 'Papa Joe' Syvrud was born in Alexandria, MN February 19, 1935.  On January 13, 2020 he passed away in his home at the age of 84.  He lived in this wonderful community and touched many lives.  He graduated from Alexandria High School in 1953 and attended the University of Minnesota.  He then enlisted in the Navy and after his service Papa Joe worked at his family owned business, Syvrud Motor Company. He met his loving wife Shirley Dawson during his high school years and they were married on June 22,1958 at First Lutheran Church in Alexandria where they were members. He was a member of the many clubs in Alexandria, including the Eagles, Lions, American Legion, VFW and the Elks where he held the privilege of the role of Exalted Ruler and State President!  His family was very proud! Papa Joe also loved the game of golf and was a member at the Alexandria Golf Club and loved lake life!

He is survived by his loving wife of over 60 years, Shirley, his sons; Jeffrey (Fran) Syvrud, Steven Syvrud, 5 grandchilden; Sam Syvrud, Jessica Syvrud, Amber (Ryan) Kennedy, Dawson and Davin Syvrud, Brothers; Dan (Alex) Syvrud, George (Genie) Syvrud and Sister Dona Wagner.

Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 21, at Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria with a Elks Funeral Ritual at 6:30 PM. Visitation will continue from 10-11 a.m., followed by a memorial service at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Jan. 22, at First Lutheran Church in Alexandria. Burial will be in Kinkead Cemetery in Alexandria.
